I'm JJ Steelman. I'm a father first, and I live and work in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

I've been on the mat for forty years. It's the longest thing I've done and the most honest teacher I've had. The floor doesn't negotiate. It doesn't hand out points for trying. You fall, you stand back up, and you learn the difference between technique and discipline. Part of that time has been Shaolin training. My Shaolin name is Shi Miao Hao, 36th generation, in a lineage that goes back more than 1,500 years.

I've been in marketing for twenty-seven years. My first company, Synergy, was a full-stack marketing and PR firm that also did technology and development. I sold it in 2008.

After that I kept building:

I did it as an operator, not an investor. I've hired. I've fired. I've shipped things that worked and things that didn't. I've run lean and I've run fat. I know which one I prefer.

Cheyenne isn't an accident. Wyoming suits a certain kind of operator, one who doesn't need to be near the noise to build. The mountains help. The quiet helps more.
